In the Netherlands, we realise the importance of making our economy more sustainable. We are embracing the challenge to protect our limited space and resources by reducing, reusing and recycling all that we make and use. Through a circular perspective, we are rethinking the way our economy works – designing products that are ‘made to be made again’ and powering the system with renewable energy. With creativity and innovation, we are building a restorative economy.

The government of the Netherlands has initiated a government-wide programme for developing a circular economy by 2050. Its ambition is to realise a milestone of a 50 percent reduction in the use of primary raw materials by 2030. The Netherlands considers this to be crucial for economic growth and, moreover, it will improve the well-being of society as a whole. This is what makes a circular economy so vital.

Growing into a circular urban delta

The Netherlands is becoming a living lab, generating and dissipating information on the transformation to a future proof economy. Holland wants to share its innovations with the world along with its desire to cooperate and co-create with international partners. For this purpose, the platform Holland Circular Hotspot organizes the Holland Circular Economy Week (HCEW), a living lab of circular innovations and a breeding space for international partnerships.

The Holland Circular Economy Week will be organized around themes such as building & construction, agrofood & biomass, electronics, textile, plastics and waste & water. Throughout the program several crosscutting themes will also be addressed, such as circular design, Extended Producer Responsibility, financing your business case and public- private and cross-sectoral cooperation.

The program consists of three main elements: An International conference on Tuesday June 12, field trips to Dutch showcases on June 11th and June 13th and a matchmaking session on June 14th. The afternoon breakout sessions will be the opportunity to learn from other countries and share knowledge and innovations on circular themes like circular Design, Extended Producer Responsibility, Financing your business case and Green Deals on public private partnerships.

Let’s join together to create a circular future that goes beyond borders. Join Holland’s flow during the Holland Circular Economy Week (HCEW)!
